It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Major (Retd.) Ishwar Lall Singh, a 92-year-old Singaporean veteran of the Indian National Army (INA) who served under the leadership of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose and then the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF).
He was one of the small group of officers that were present when Singapore gained its independence in 1965 and helped shape the SAF into what it is today. He served as the Vice-Chairman of the Residents’ Committee for two years at SNM (Singapore) and was cared for till his peaceful passing on 5th August 2022.
May his soul rest in eternal peace.
SNM’s CEO, Mr S. Devendran, was quoted in Tabla! on July 27th, 2022.
He said, “She (Mrs Drishti Bablani) is a very energetic lady with a heart of gold. Last year, we got 2,000kg of rice. This year, it has more than doubled. Such donations help us defray our operating expenses. On average, we use 1,500kg of rice a month at our nursing home. This donation will last us at least three months.”
Thank you The Kindness Ripple : An initiative by Wordions.com for the generous donation of rice! The impact of your gift will go a long way in bringing a smile to our beneficiaries’ faces!
Congratulations on your 90th Anniversary Jamiyah Singapore!
Jamiyah Singapore has established multi-racial peace and harmony since 1932 providing welfare services to the community regardless of race and faith.
These 90 years of service to the community is a remarkable achievement and is a strong example of what we can achieve together when we stand together as one.
Thank you for the Inter-Faith Harmony Book that was presented to our President, Mr Jayadev Unnithan. As an organisation sharing a similar vision, SNM looks forward to continuing our efforts with Jamiyah Singapore to achieve greater good for the community.
To commemorate the start of our 75th anniversary, we organised a Heritage Walk for our members and staff on June 18th. Joining us were also volunteers from SNM Youth, Agilent Technologies (Singapore), Red Cross First Aid Volunteers, SNM Individual Volunteers, who braved the morning sun with us.
75 people from our members, management and staff walked 7.5km to mark the start of our 75th anniversary celebrations and created beautiful memories together. The walk trailed from the Momentary Monument, where Singapore’s founding Prime Minister, Mr. Lee Kuan Yew made his first public appearance after his televised public announcement of Singapore’s separation from Malaysia on 9th August 1965. His appearance on 12 September 1965 was made at the former Sree Narayana Mission, which stood at No. 48 Soon Keat Road, where he delivered his clarion ‘Never Fear’ call to all Singaporeans. Today, this spot is marked by the Momentary Monument, which currently stands at 313 Sembawang Drive.
Our celebrations also provided our participants the opportunity to do voluntary service, where they put their hands together to clean some of the residents’ wheelchairs.
Assoc Prof Faishal Ibrahim, Minister of State, Ministry of Home Affairs & Ministry of National Development, also graced our event as Guest-of-Honour and shared words of appreciation for the contributions of SNM to the community over the last 74 years. The event concluded with a sweet serving of cake for all and our Resident’s Committee Chairman, Mr Eric Lim, presented a token of appreciation to Assoc Prof Dr Faishal Ibrahim.
The event was covered by Indian Beat, who featured this event on their show on July 8th. You can view the feature via the link here: SNM’s Feature on Indian Beats, July 8th.
