169th Birth Anniversary Of Sree Narayana Guru
In Singapore, Sree Narayana Mission (Singapore) celebrated the 169th birth anniversary of Sree Narayana Guru, who contributed to the upliftment of oppressed communities in Kerala. The celebration, which took place on 2nd September, included cultural events and performances.
During this celebration, around 300 people, including members of the Keralan cultural community, paid their respects to Sree Narayana Guru and his life and teachings. The event highlighted the significant impact he had on society.
The second day of the festivities featured activities held at the Illam (the Mission’s residence) in Yishun. As part of the celebrations, a grand feast was organised, serving 21 different dishes to approximately 1,700 attendees, promoting the spirit of unity and community during the Onam celebrations in Kerala.
Singapore’s Minister for Health, Mr Ong Ye Kung, and Minister of State, Ministry of Home Affairs & Ministry of National Development, Assoc. Professor Dr Muhammad Faishal Ibrahim, joined as special guests for the celebration.
The activities included awards for educational excellence, and performances and the signing of Memorandum of Understandings, highlighting Sree Narayana Mission’s collaboration with other partner organisations.
Mr. S. Devendran, CEO of Sree Narayana Mission (Singapore), mentioned that this event was not only for the Malayalee community but for all Singaporeans. Although celebrating this event for the past three years was a challenge posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, Mr. Devendran stated that this year’s celebrations were held with great enthusiasm.
